1   Link   Carbon Credits
"Trading in carbon is a multi-million dollar industry in Europe and the United States. Forecasters have suggested that carbon trading is poised to become the world’s largest commodity market, generating financial innovation in hedge funds, futures and derivates. The volume of trade under the European Union’s Emission Trading Scheme (EU-ETS) exceeded all expectations in the early part of 2005, leading to the recent launch of the European Climate Exchange (ECX), the world’s first carbon futures market. Carbon emissions are a global problem and credits for both emission reduction and carbon sequestration are an important part of the global solution."

3   Link   Biochar, It Pays!
"...The department extrapolated from a one-tenth scale trial to conclude that a pyrolysis unit processing four dry tonnes an hour of waste from a chicken facility (mainly manure and sawdust) could yield 2.3 megawatts an hour of electricity, saleable to the grid for $750,000 a year (assuming a price of $40/MWh). Renewable energy certificates could be sold for another $1 million (assuming a price of $55 per MWh).

The unit would also produce 12,000 tonnes of biochar a year worth - this is the big part - up to $6.4 million based on the extra sweet corn and fava beans yielded after application of biochar in the department's trial. The productivity increase was substantial - almost double, in some cases."

6   Link   BioMethanel as an Energy Carrier
"Methane is a better long-distance energy carrier than electricity. Its storage and transportation is much cheaper and easier than electricity. Natural gas pipelines cost half as much to build as electric towers and have about one fourth as much transmission loss. They are also more reliable, safer and visually superior to ugly transmission towers. "
